Quality Control Technician

JOB FUNCTION – REQUIREMENTS – SUCCESS FACTORS:

Under the direction of the Quality Manager, Quality Engineer and the Senior Lead Technician, the Quality Control Technician collects data on various phases of the production process, compares collected data to established specifications, records data, communicates data to production, initiates non-conforming product isolation and performs a variety of miscellaneous duties as necessary.

REQUIRES:
• Must have a high school education.
• Must have adequate working knowledge of mathematics, must have mental ability to obtain working knowledge of all equipment used and must in tactful and courteous in dealing with production personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Below duties are required, additional duties can be added and required.
• Uses micrometer to determine ribbon thickness contour.
• Uses ream comparator to check ream.
• Measures distortion visually with the use of a zebra board or pattern comparison test equipment.
• Uses striaescope photographic equipment to evaluate transmitted distortion.
• Uses spectrophotometer to measure transmittance and color characteristics of glass.
• Uses furnace to glass bending to check bloom.
• Uses glossmeter to check the “W” coverage.
• Check top tin using baby powder.
• Check warp using a taper gage and surface plate.
• Weighs ribbon section of glass used in the calculation of tons per day.
• Check 40” caps for seeds.
• Complete surface checks using edge lights, green lights, reflective lights, transmitted lights or other designated lighting to prevent the shipment of reject quality to customers.
• Uses a scum chamber to test of tin surface for irregularities.

QUALIFICATIONS
• The Quality Control Technician is required to collect data to established specifications and react accordingly to non-conformance.
• Data is collected and recorded on computer terminals for review by management, knowledge of use of computers is required, previous use of Excel and Outlook is beneficial.
• Communication skill is a requirement, the technician has the responsibility of informing relieving technicians of pertinent information relative to previous shift activities and if known, upcoming activities. Reports and communicates to supervisors on their shift any issue that arises or has the potential to be an issue. This communication is always done in an immediate, timely manner.
• Maintains a safe and healthy work environment to minimize injuries and health concerns to employees while ensuring adherence to government and FGI’s environmental regulations, product safety standards and company policies.

WORK DIRECTION:
The Quality Control Technician must exercise a high degree of courtesy and tact in the communication with all in-plant personnel. A high degree of professionalism is expected.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Plant Environment: exposure to outside conditions, high temperature, some chemicals, noise, vibration and dust that may require personal protective equipment.
